New Moon Ceremony

This Friday is the April New Moon. Gently Being's April New Moon ceremony is sold out, but I thought it would be fun to share some tips for how you can have a New Moon ceremony for everyone who is unable to make the event.

The New Moon is the first of the lunar phases. During the New Moon phase the Moon is at its darkest to the unaided eye due to the fact that the Moon and Sun are at the same ecliptic longitude. Since the moon is at the beginning of a lunar phase, the New Moon is a time for setting new intentions, beginning new projects, and deciding on and working towards new goals. Any ritual you decide to come up with that allows you to set a new intention and begin work on a new goal is perfect for this time.

Tip 1: Pick a small space for your ritual/meditation.

It does not have to be an entire room, just a corner of a room, or a seat at a table. You just want to carve out some physical space for yourself to honour the New Moon.

Tip 2: Inform other beings in your home of the New Moon and the ritual you are doing.

You don't have to share all the details if you want this to be a private affair, but it is useful to let other beings in your house know that you will be busy from the time you set and to ask for some quiet.

Tip 3: Light a Candle/pick your favourite essential oil

Create a sacred space for yourself by inviting your favourite scent(s) into your place of ritual. Essential oils and candles can also be used to clear the energy in the space you have selected to be in. Just remember to always be careful around flames and keep candles out of reach of children and curious pets.

Tip 4: Say a prayer and/or practice a meditation

Your New Moon practice can be what you need and want it to be as long as you approach it with an open heart and with kindness.

Tip 5: Intention Setting

Set a new intention for this lunar phase. It can be as simple as getting one task on your to do-list done or larger intentions like practicing more gratitude in your daily life. You can write, draw, or sing out your intention. I like to write it out on a small piece of paper that I hold while I meditate on the intention I am setting.
